The Commission of Space Science, which since March 2017 has been acting through the Gdańsk Chapter of the Polish Academy of Science, organises cyclical seminars on various aspects of space science.

The previous seminars, which took place in June and September concerned the following subjects:

1. Polish Space Strategy. Chasing Europe.

2. Space engineering. Innovations at the dawn of a new era.

The Commission of Space Sciences was set up in March 2017 in response to interest from the academic circles in outer space exploration. The Commission, due to its interdisciplinary character, has been organised in three sections: (1) space and satellite technologies, (2) the management of outer space, and (3) space law.

The following seminar will take place on 9 November 2017 in the Conference Room of the School of Administration and Business in Gdynia, at ul. Kielecka 7, and will be titled: Space Cluster. Intelligent Specialisation? Risk management, finance and insurance in space projects.

The seminar will be moderated by Prof. dr hab. Zdzisław Brodecki of the School of Administration and Business and by dr Katarzyna Malinowska, Assistant professor at Kozminski University in Warsaw (lecturer on space law and the author of publications on space insurance).

The aim of the Seminar is to present and discuss the current state of the Polish space sector in the context of risk management in space projects, as well as the challenges of financing space sector endeavours. This is crucial for indicating a development path for the Polish space sector, using foreign experience in that field, given Poland’s increasing share in space projects, including those developed by ESA.

Speaking at the Seminar will be experts in identifying, assessing and insuring space and air risks, as well as in financing space projects, including those from Poland, Great Britain and the Netherlands.

The programme of the Seminar includes:

Further seminars will be focused on the following subjects:

  1. Polish Space Code. 3…2…1… launch (11 January 2018)
  2. Outer Space and the sea. Touching horizons (8 March  2018)
